Why Visitor Visa?

People from around the world apply for a Canadian visitor visa primarily for tourism, visiting family or friends, attending business meetings or conferences, short-term studies, and participating in major international events such as sports and cultural programs. In the context of the FIFA World Cup 2026, which Canada is co-hosting, IRCC has confirmed that international fans must continue to apply under existing entry frameworks, meaning they will need either a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) depending on their nationality, as there is no special “World Cup visa.” IRCC has issued public guidance encouraging applicants to apply well in advance due to high expected volumes, advised visitors to indicate FIFA World Cup 2026 as the purpose of travel in their applications, and clarified that holding match tickets does not guarantee entry. All visitors, including fans, must meet standard admissibility requirements under Canadian immigration law.
